I just returned from Cancun in time to recap DPT event #2 before the highly anticipated event #3 this coming Sunday. It was a crazy night of 7-handed donkery as we welcomed newcomers Harry and Marilyn Corre into the neighborhood corral. DPT event #2 marked the fastest event time perhaps ever witnessed in 7-handed history at the Shrier residence: We declared the winner, Mitch “itchy” Bloch within 2 hours. Here is how it played out.
Ok, so let’s first review. What is a flush? A Flush is a poker hand with 5 cards of the same suit. Does everybody understand, because not only was the nut flush the most popular winning hand of the night but generally speaking those holding the nut flush never knew it. Mitch showed A9 and Marilyn Ax to win the first two pots.
Early into the game Peterson and Marilyn split an epic board K66KA each holding a K for a full house. Smashed by the split pot Peterson regrouped to crack Harry’s Aces with a turned K high heart flush (that’s correct, 5 cards of the same suit).
Marilyn struck back for the Corre’s in a 4 –handed pot. Peterson limped with AA and the board that came 4T3 rainbow. After a heavy round of betting everyone represented strength and a third Ace fell on the turn. With no flush draw Peterson led out with a sizable 300 chips that was called all around. Peterson continued to bet on the rivered 7 which AGAIN was called around to DONKbonius who immediately reraised all-in for another 500+. After much labored thought Peterson called hoping that nobody was holding 56 or 25 hole cards to complete the straight. And then it happened…. even before Peterson pushed an additional 500 chips into the pot (500 remaining) DONKbonius blew a fuse. “You have me beat!” as he turned over his Q4 in frustration showing perhaps the most gutsy bluff since Mitch’s 53 off suit. I couldn’t help but think “does he look like a man beat by Jacks?"—Rounders, but then the sneakers flew on and he hopped over the couch toward the exit, demanding a self-imposed ban for the remainder of the DPT. We pleaded with his decision and hope for a swift return to circuit play.
NOW, we were still in the middle of a hand mind you… Harry and Marilyn both called and guess what…? Harry was holding 45 and Marilyn turned over the !@%^!&!%@&% 25 to hit the wheel to crush Peterson’s trip Aces. *sigh*
To say the least there was a slight tension in the air and this unfortunately was amplified by the potential McCartney-drive-by-shooting that loomed over all of us (ok maybe only in Mary and Greg’s minds but it makes for a more dramatic recap).
The remainder of the tourney was often determined by he who held the largest full house. Blinds were barely 25/50 but donkeys were all-in everywhere… and listen folks, as I detailed from the start I just returned from Mexico and I witnessed several quality donkey shows but this was some crazy shite!! Harry was the second to bust-out followed by Randy due to a Marilyn donkarama. Mitch dragged a pot with Qs full of 5s against Mary’s AA and Marilyn’s 2s full of 5s. Mitch then K.O.ed Marilyn with 9s full vs. trip 3s. And yet again, only several hands later, Mitch “I sold my soul to the devil” Bloch slayed Mary (TT) all-in with 9s full of 5s with two 9s on the board. Good game to the Ho Wrangler who was awarded 1 DPT pt and her $40 buy-in!
Somehow Peterson was heads up against Mitch: approx. 500:7500 chip lead. The battle was not much of a competition and Mitch (A4) ultimately eliminated Peterson (73) on a board of 56T69. Peterson sucked out for 2 DPT pts and a nice $100 cash while the Donkey Sceptor, 3DPT pts and a sweet $180 was claimed by event #2 Mitch champion.
Congratulations to Senor Mitch the Donkey!!... May any two cards play as long as they make you a full house.
